Where did the enthusiasm go?

I had a blog 12 years ago, at the time I was undergoing treatment for Hepatitis C and I used the blog to talk about the experience of the treatment, which wasn't easy.  That blog was cathartic and allowed me to connect with a wonderful group of people in the same boat, some of whom were also blogging about their experiences.  I wrote an entry in that blog every day for a period of 6 months or more and so I am bewildered that now I have something exciting to talk about that I have been so remiss in jotting down my thoughts.

I sit here today with a renewed enthusiasm and a promise to myself to try harder.  I think I may have scuppered myself initially in trying to write something that people might find helpful and provide information about moving to Spain and frankly I probably bored myself with it.  So instead I am going to revert to what worked for me all those years ago and just jot down a few lines about what's currently going on in my little part of the world here in Almeria.

It's February 5th, the skies are clear but it is blooming cold.  The cortijo is designed to stay cool in the summer which means small windows and thick walls.  In the winter this translates to limited sunlight  and if you don't have a fire going constantly, an inside temperate that is decidedly colder than outside.  Admittedly when we get the wood burner going in the living room it heats up beautifully and the thick walls do help to keep the heat in overnight, though most of that escapes when you open the shutters for the precious sunlight in the morning (I'm convinced my windows are single glazed with picture glass).

The upside to the weather is that now is an excellent time to get jobs done outside, not being warm enough for sun bathing but still warm enough to potter around with a  jumper on.  As a result we've been clearing the garden, knocking down unsightly wood sheds,  making shutters to fill in the windows round the pool and even a bit of planting.  We've cleared several large swathes of garden and found lots of hidden plants that have been propagated and we now have a little seedling nursery in the walled kitchen garden.   Quite how long this enthusiasm for gardening will last is in doubt as it will soon by swimsuit weather and the call of a gin and tonic by the pool will become harder to resist.
